The Air Force Strategic Command (AFSC), responsible for Pakistan’s air-launched nuclear weapons, primarily utilises F-16A/B/C/D and Mirage 5 combat aircraft for delivery. There are reports of incorporating the dual-capable Ra’ad Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) into its fighter jet fleet. Pakistan initially fielded the Ra’ad on its Mirage III aircraft and is now planning to equip the newer JF-17 aircraft with the Ra’ad ALCM, allowing it to gradually assume the nuclear strike role from the older F-16 and Mirage 5 platforms. Additionally, Pakistan’s acquisition of 36 J-10CE fighter jets from China raises the possibility of integrating the Ra’ad ALCM onto these new aircraft as well. The first batch was inducted into the force in March 2022.

This modernization effort reflects Pakistan’s strategic focus on enhancing the effectiveness and survivability of its nuclear delivery system. By incorporating the Ra’ad ALCM into its fighter jet fleet, Pakistan aims to achieve greater flexibility, range, and precision in its nuclear deterrence posture.
