Army Major killed in a firefight with terrorists in Zhob

An army officer was killed and three terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Zhob district.

According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted the IBO in the general area of Sambaza in Zhob district, effectively engaging with the terrorists. The ISPR stated that three terrorists were subsequently neutralized during the operation, referred to as being “sent to hell”.

The ISPR also reported the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the terrorists.

“During the intense exchange of fire, Major Babar Khan, aged 33 and a resident of District Mianwali, demonstrated exceptional bravery by leading his troops from the front. Regrettably, he paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR stated.

Additionally, a sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area.

“The security forces of Pakistan, in line with the nation, remain steadfast in their determination to thwart attempts aimed at sabotaging the peace, stability, and progress of Balochistan. The sacrifices made by our courageous soldiers only serve to strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR concluded.

Last month, three terrorists were also neutralized by security forces in an IBO in Balochistan’s Pishin District.

Pakistan has experienced an increase in terrorist activities over the past year, particularly in KP and Balochistan following the termination of the ceasefire between the government and the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.

According to an annual security report released by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan recorded 1,524 fatalities and 1,463 injuries resulting from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023 — marking a six-year high.

KP and Balochistan were the focal points of violence, accounting for over 90% of all fatalities and 84% of attacks, including incidents of terrorism and security force operations.
