Army-Police to probe clash in Bahawalnagar

The Punjab government and Pakistan Army have decided to conduct transparent investigations into the events. A joint inquiry team will be formed to determine the facts and hold those responsible accountable.

On April 10th, a tense situation arose in Bahawalnagar when a police raid for a suspect turned into a confrontation with the military. The incident started when the police arrested a civilian and his two sons, one of whom was a serving army officer. The authorities allege that the officers held the family for more than 24 hours without presenting them before a court, while the family members claim that the police subjected them to violence.

Videos surfaced on social media and sparked accusations after both sides suffered injuries. One video depicted police officers being mistreated, while another showed damage to the police station.

The police officials were booked for misconduct and misuse of authority, and a police officer who shared “misinformation” on social media has been suspended. The army is also conducting its investigation, and the Punjab police chief condemned the negative social media campaign. This incident highlights the need for better communication and cooperation between law enforcement and the military. The joint investigation is expected to shed light on the events and ensure appropriate action is taken.
