In a brazen assault, attackers attempted to infiltrate a security installation at the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) in Balochistan, Pakistan. The incident began with explosions from grenades followed by gunfire.
Security forces responded swiftly to the attack, engaging in a heavy firefight with the attackers. Local police cordoned off the area to contain the situation.
This incident comes just two months after a similar attack in Balochistan’s Mach and Kolpur areas, where security forces repelled BLA assaults and killed over a dozen attackers.
These attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan. While security forces have achieved some success in countering terrorism, the fight against militant groups continues.
Early reports suggest there might be four attackers in total. The identity of the attackers is not yet confirmed, but the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility through their suicide unit, the Majeed Brigade.
The targeted area near Gwadar is a high-security zone housing several sensitive state organizations like Military Intelligence and ISI besides Chinese installations. Gunfire reportedly echoed through the area during the attack.
