At least seven security officials, including an army captain, were killed on June 9 when an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted their vehicle in Lakki Marwat. Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police successfully repelled a pre-dawn ambush at their checkpost in Bajaur.
Local authorities reported that the security vehicle was en route to the Kaichi Kamar area when it was attacked near Sultankhel village, close to Punjab’s Mianwali district.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement confirming the incident: “An improvised explosive device exploded on a vehicle of security forces in Lakki Marwat District.” The martyred personnel include 26-year-old Captain Muhammad Faraz Ilyas from Kasur, 50-year-old Subedar Major Muhammad Nazir from Skardu, 34-year-old Lance Naik Muhammad Anwar from Ghanchi, 36-year-old Lance Naik Hussain Ali from Ghizer, 33-year-old Sepoy Asadullah from Multan, 27-year-old Sepoy Manzoor Hussain from Gilgit, and 31-year-old Sepoy Rashid Mehmood from Rawalpindi.
The ISPR stated that a sanitization operation was underway to eliminate any terrorists in the area, vowing that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. They reaffirmed their determination to eradicate terrorism, noting that the sacrifices of such brave soldiers strengthened their resolve.
Bajaur Checkpost Ambush
In a separate incident, militants launched an overnight attack on a police post in Bajaur district, which was successfully repulsed by the police. According to an official statement, the attackers targeted the post in the Miagano area of Khar tehsil using multiple weapons, including rocket launchers.
The police at the post responded to the attack, and reinforcements were dispatched to the location. A senior police official stated that an investigation had been launched to identify the facilitators and assailants behind the attack.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur strongly condemned the attack on security forces in Lakki Marwat’s Shahab Khel area.
