COAS General Asim Munir Meets Chinese President Xi Jinping During High-Level Delegation Visit

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a high-level Pakistani delegation’s visit to China. A widely circulated photo on social media shows General Munir shaking hands with President Xi, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif standing alongside them.

The delegation included Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Army Chief General Asim Munir, and others.

Separately, numerous Pakistani businessmen traveled to China to explore new cooperation opportunities with Chinese companies, with the government promoting the prime minister’s visit extensively.

During the visit, Pakistan and China signed 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance collaboration across various sectors, including transportation infrastructure, industry, energy, agriculture, media, healthcare, water management, and socioeconomic development.

Following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch highlighted the strong Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership based on mutual trust, shared principles, and strategic governance.

Both nations reiterated their unwavering support for each other’s core concerns and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and completing ongoing projects promptly. PM Shehbaz assured the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects in Pakistan, emphasizing the protection of CPEC from detractors.

Additionally, they agreed to maintain high-level engagements, strengthen institutional links across all sectors, and continue consultations on bilateral and global issues.
