Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS), a state-owned Pakistani company, showcased the Fatah-II, a new guided rocket system, at the World Defense Show (WDS) 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This domestically developed system boasts advanced features and extended range, marking a significant step forward in Pakistan’s defense capabilities. The army had carried out the first test of the system in December last year.
Key Features:
Range: 400 km (domestic variant), 290 km (export version)
Payload: 365 kg unitary blast or blast fragmentation warheads
Accuracy: Circular Error Probable (CEP) of less than 50 meters
Launch System: Twin-cell launcher (2 rockets per vehicle)
Guidance: Inertial Navigation System (INS) + Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
Firing Modes: Salvo and non-salvo
Advanced Technology:
The Fatah-II incorporates a single-stage dual-thrust solid rocket motor, a thermal protection system, and a programmable trajectory for enhanced in-flight guidance and accuracy. Its sophisticated navigation system leverages both INS and GNSS technologies. Additionally, an automatic aiming, leveling, positioning, and orientation system aids in precise targeting.
Strategic Significance:
This new missile system represents a strategic expansion of Pakistan’s guided rocket arsenal. Compared to the Fatah-I and Nasr series, the Fatah-II exhibits a longer range and design advancements like a twin-cell launcher and finless nosecone. Experts suggest possible shared design elements with the CM-400AKG air-launched missile used by the Pakistan Air Force.
Global Ambitions:
The “Fatah” naming convention suggests Pakistan’s intent to establish a family of guided rockets, bolstering its land-based strike capabilities. This development aligns with the country’s broader military modernization goals and ambitions to carve a niche in the global defense industry. The unveiling at WDS 2024 underscores Pakistan’s commitment to these objectives.
