Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Denounces May 9 Riots as an Attempt to Incite Military Mutiny

In a scathing rebuke of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party’s role in the May 9 riots, former Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has labeled the incident as a deliberate conspiracy to foment mutiny within the country’s armed forces.

“When a sinister plot was hatched against our nation and a despicable attempt was made to spark a rebellion in the military, all of Pakistan stood united in condemnation,” Sharif asserted during a press conference outside an accountability court in Lahore.

He vehemently condemned the facilitation of the May 9 perpetrators, equating their actions with treason against the nation. “It should be etched in our minds that democracy cannot coexist with treason,” Sharif declared.

Reiterating his unwavering respect for the judiciary, the former premier emphasized that his appearances before the courts were not merely obligations but rather a testament to his unwavering pursuit of justice. He pointed to the well-documented hardships endured by his brother Nawaz Sharif, their entire family, and fellow members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party as a testament to their unwavering commitment to democracy and the rule of law.

Sharif’s remarks serve as a stark reminder of the gravity of the May 9 riots and the underlying threat they posed to Pakistan’s national security and stability. His condemnation of the PTI’s actions reinforces the need for accountability and upholding democratic principles in the face of such subversive attempts.
