Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has proceeded on an official visit to the USA.

This is the army chief’s first trip to the States since assuming office.

in one year, General Munir has made 11 official visits abroad, including China.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), during his visit, General Asim Munir is scheduled to meet senior military and other government officials of America.

Some reports claim that General Munir is likely to meet U.S Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, U.S National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan, Director CIA William F Burns and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown Jr.

While the Pakistani Embassy remains mum on the details of COAS Munir’s US trip, there are reports suggesting it might span five days. COAS Munir is expected to meet with the top brass of the US Department of Defense, including the Secretary of Defense, to discuss bilateral military cooperation, regional security concerns, and areas of mutual interest. The agenda for this meeting could encompass broader strategic issues and Pakistan’s regional role, particularly regarding Afghanistan and other developments.

Following the tradition of past COAS visits, Gen. Munir might engage with experts and policymakers at think tanks and members of the US Congress to discuss various issues from Pakistan’s perspective.
Connecting with the Pakistani Diaspora: The visit might also include an interaction with the Pakistani community in the US, allowing Gen. Munir to share updates and strengthen ties with the community.
Focus of Briefings and Discussions:

COAS Munir is likely to share his assessment of the evolving regional security situation, including the Afghan scenario and its broader implications. Pakistan’s economic challenges and potential avenues for US cooperation are expected to be a key discussion point. The COAS might also explore ways to further solidify and expand the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

In October, the army chief and US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin had held a telephone conversation and discussed “areas of mutual interest as well as recent regional developments”.

In July, US Central Command (Centcom) chief General Michael Erik Kurilla had called on the COAS in Rawalpindi and recognised Pakistan’s “continued efforts” for bringing peace and stability to the region.
