While incumbent Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif already remains popular among the whole Pakistani nation, a senior journalist has claimed that the army chief donated his two DHA plots to the families of martyrs of the Pakistan army.
According to Director News Capital TV Noshad Ali, Raheel Sharif is the first Pakistan army chief to donate plots worth millions of rupees to the Shuhda Fund (Martyrs Fund) which was established for the welfare of families of those who sacrifice lives for the country in war and anti-terrorism operations.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that General Raheel Sharif is the younger brother of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, who was awarded Nishan-e-Haider for valour in the 1971 war against India. Nishan-e-Haider Major Aziz Bhatti was also a close relative of the army chief, who sacrificed his life while fighting Indian forces on the front lines in the 1965 war.
