ISLAMABAD, 05 June, 2009 (Frontier Star) –Former head of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and operation midnight jackal fame Brig (retd) Imtiaz has said that Lt. Gen. (retd) Hameed Gul and Ijlal Haider Zaidi, close aide of former President Ghulam Ishaque Khan masterminded the removal of first Benazir Bhutto government. Talking to the reporter news agency here, he said to de-stabilize the Benazir Bhutto government in 1990, Hameed Gul, who was then Corps Commander Multan, used to travel to Rawalpindi and stay in an officers mess where along with Ijlal Haider Zaidi, he prepared the blue prints of the conspiracy. He said when he was summoned to the GHQ for inquiry in this connection, former ISI Chief Rtd. General Kallo with a brief case in his hand and General Hameed Gul were present. They individually met the then Army Chief General Mirza Aslam Beg. After the meeting, Hameed Gul told him (Brig Imtiaz) not to name him (Hameed Gul) and General Aslam Beg in the inquiry. Brig (retd) Imtiaz said: “He has now decided to break his silence so that the nation knows the real persons behind the midnight jackal conspiracy.” He said it is also time to expose those who are worshipped by the people as idols but time has come to break their myth. He disclosed that when Junejo government ordered an inquiry into the Ojri Camp blast, Hameed Gul lost his nerves, suffered mental disorder and got treatment from a civilian doctor in the Satellite Town, Rawalpindi instead of going to military doctors. Former IB Chief said Hameed Gul has tried to hide the facts under the garb of seniority. He said he suffered for four long years in solitary confinement in jail by blindly obeying the instructions of seniors. He said it was Hameed Gul who played the role for the release of Ghulam Mustafa Khar. After this disclosure by him to certain known journalists, Hameed Gul tried to pressurize him to deny the report. However, he said, he bluntly refused to do so because he had stated the facts. “My reaction at that time would still be in the mind of Hameed Gul,” Imtiaz said.
