The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday mandated the live broadcast of all cases involving missing persons while addressing the disappearance of poet Ahmed Farhad Shah. The court also summoned several high-ranking officials, including Sector Commander, ISI, to appear in person on May 29.
Shah, a journalist and poet, disappeared from his home in Islamabad on May 14.
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani issued an eight-page written order in Urdu, demanding the presence of the Federal Minister for Law, the Sector Commander of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the Military Intelligence (MI) Director, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and the secretaries of defence and interior.

The court’s directive stated that if the missing individual is found before the next hearing, a written report must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office. This is the first instance of the Islamabad High Court issuing a written order in Urdu, authored by Justice Kayani.
During the hearing, journalists informed the court about the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) notification. The court allowed the reporting of the proceedings, highlighting the significance of the case.
On Tuesday, the IHC ordered the recovery of the missing poet by May 24, accepting the attorney general for Pakistan’s (AGP) request for additional time to achieve this.
At the outset of the hearing, the AGP requested an extension of two to four days for Shah’s recovery, assuring the court that law enforcement agencies would be able to locate him within this period.
