IHC Seeks Reports from Defence, Interior, and Intelligence Agencies on Missing Person Case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday requested detailed reports from the secretaries of Interior and Defence, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Military Intelligence (MI), Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), and the sector commanders of spy agencies in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir concerning a petition filed by a woman seeking the recovery of her husband, Khawaja Khursheed, who has been missing since June 7.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the IHC heard the petition submitted by Khaleeqa Khursheed. According to the petition, Mr. Khursheed, a resident of Neelum Valley in Azad Kashmir, went missing after visiting Sector G-13 in Islamabad from Rawalpindi.

The petitioner’s counsel informed the court that despite extensive efforts, Mr. Khursheed’s whereabouts remain unknown. His brother had lodged a police complaint, but no progress had been made.

Justice Kayani issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the hearing to June 21, following a request from the counsel to postpone until after Eidul Azha.

Update on Baloch Missing Persons

In a related matter, Additional Attorney General Barrister Munawar Iqbal Duggal informed Justice Kayani that 91 out of 95 missing persons from Balochistan have been recovered. Justice Kayani emphasized that the court’s primary focus is the recovery of missing persons and warned that senior government officials could face jail time if courts start recording statements from the recovered individuals.

The court also inquired about the progress of a commission formed to address the issue of Baloch missing students, which includes directors-general of ISI, MI, Intelligence Bureau, FIA, and Counter-Terrorism Department. Advocate Imaan Mazari reported another Baloch student, Aneesur Rehman, went missing on June 5, raising further concerns.

Justice Kayani remarked that such incidents foster animosity against the state and urged that any troublemakers should be dealt with according to the law. He also recommended forming a larger bench to hear such cases and requested the registrar to invite the DGs of ISI, MI, and IB to Criminal Justice Committee meetings.
