Islamabad Assures Beijing of Security for Chinese Citizens Amidst Strengthened Bilateral Ties

Islamabad has reaffirmed its commitment to providing foolproof security for Chinese citizens working on various projects in Pakistan, emphasizing that no one can undermine the strong ties between the two countries. This assurance was given during a meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong on Sunday at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad.

The meeting followed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to China, where the promotion of Pakistan-China relations and the security of Chinese citizens in Pakistan were key topics of discussion. Interior Minister Naqvi highlighted that the prime minister’s visit had further solidified the friendship with China, noting that China’s top leadership has consistently supported Pakistan.

Naqvi briefed Ambassador Jiang on the measures implemented to protect Chinese nationals, including engineers and staff working on CPEC and other projects. He outlined the comprehensive and effective SOPs developed for their security and announced the creation of a separate Special Protection Unit (SPU) in Islamabad for foreign nationals.

“The protection of Chinese brothers working for Pakistan’s development is the government’s top priority,” Naqvi stated, adding that any attempts to disrupt the enduring Pakistan-China friendship would not succeed.

Ambassador Jiang expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements and reiterated the strong, brotherly ties between Pakistan and China, emphasizing Beijing’s high regard for its relationship with Islamabad.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz visited China from June 4 to June 8, meeting President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. The visit underscored China’s steadfast support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, security, and development, with both sides committing to zero tolerance towards terrorism and agreeing to bolster counter-terrorism and security cooperation.
