The 6th edition of the Maritime Security Workshop (MARSEW-6) kicked off at the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore.
Rear Admiral Javed Iqbal, Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College, inaugurated the workshop.
Organized under the auspices of the Pakistan Navy, the national-level forum revolves around the theme ‘Secure Seas, Prosperous Pakistan.
‘ MARSEW-6’ aims to enhance understanding of maritime security dynamics, raise awareness of the blue economy, and tap into Pakistan’s untapped maritime potential.
The workshop emphasizes shedding light on challenges and opportunities in Pakistan’s maritime sector, showcasing its potential contribution to the national economy. Participants, including Senators, Parliamentarians, senior bureaucrats, individuals from the maritime sector, business community, academia, think tanks, and media, come together from both public and private sectors.
In his welcome address, Commandant Rear Admiral Javed Iqbal outlined the workshop’s activities, focusing on familiarizing participants with Pakistan’s maritime potential in the context of policy formulation. He underscored the need to reposition strategic focus on the sea and understand evolving developments in the broader Indian Ocean, which impact Pakistan’s national security. The Commandant also highlighted the extensive challenges and the crucial role of the Pakistan Navy in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.
