Heavy clashes have erupted on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan on January 19,2024.
Taliban soldiers started the clash by attacking the Pakistani Army near the Bajaur-Kunar border. The incident happened while Pakistan’s Security Forces were repairing the border fence. Similar clashes have erupted between the two forces in the past.
As the volume of exchange of fire between Pakistani forces and the Taliban is very high Pakistani army forces are being dispatched to the area of conflict. Local sources say that the border guards of the Taliban and Pakistan have clashed in the border areas of the Sarkanou district of Kunar.
A source close to the Taliban said that this conflict started around 8:30 this morning in the Sarkanou district and is still going on.
In December 2022, clashes had erupted between the border forces of Afghanistan and Pakistan near the key Chaman-Spin Boldak border crossing , resulting in one death and over a dozen injuries, Pakistani officials said. Previously, cross-border shelling and gunfire killed eight Pakistani civilians and one Afghan soldier on Sunday near the same crossing, which connects Pakistan’s southwestern province of Balochistan with the southern Afghan province of Kandahar. The fighting started when Pakistani forces repairing a portion of the border fence damaged came under attack from the Afghan side of the frontier.
