The Senate unanimously passed a resolution on January 1 calling for strict punishment, including a 10-year ban from holding public office, for individuals engaging in negative propaganda against the Pakistan Army and security forces on social media.
The resolution was tabled by PPP Senator Bahramand Tangi during the session presided over by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani. It emphasized the critical role of a robust military given hostile neighbors.
The unanimous approval reflects agreement across party lines on imposing severe penalties against those spreading anti-military narratives online. The resolution acknowledged the armed forces’ sacrifices combating terrorism.
It expressed serious concerns over derogatory online content targeting the army and urged the government to punish perpetrators according to the law. The resolution stressed the Senate’s worries about social media propaganda against the military and insisted the government take action against those responsible.
