Pakistan Navy Chief Urges Focus on Maritime Sector for Economic Growth

Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, emphasized the importance of unlocking the nation’s maritime potential to drive sustainable economic progress. Addressing the closing ceremony of the 6th Maritime Security Workshop, he noted that a robust maritime sector can serve as a key enabler for a brighter economic future.

The annual workshop, hosted by the Pakistan Navy War College, aims to raise awareness about maritime security, the blue economy, and untapped opportunities within Pakistan’s maritime domain. Participants included parliamentarians, policymakers, academics, entrepreneurs, and media representatives.

Admiral Ashraf highlighted the Navy’s commitment to fostering national maritime awareness, promoting informed discussions on critical issues, and supporting initiatives related to the blue economy, regional strategic developments, and the evolving geopolitical landscape. He further mentioned the Navy’s efforts in directing resources towards the socio-economic development of coastal communities.

Earlier, the workshop’s Commandant, Rear Admiral Javaid Iqbal, provided an overview of the nine-day program, which covered maritime security, regional geopolitics, and opportunities and challenges within Pakistan’s maritime sector. Participants also received briefings on the Navy’s role in defending national sea borders and promoting maritime interests abroad.
