PTI wants Gen Bajwa court-martialled

The PTI on Friday demanded accountability for former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, accusing him of violating his oath based on claims by ex-PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair that Bajwa began talks with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif two months before PTI’s ouster from power.

In an interview, Zubair, former Sindh governor and spokesperson for Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz, stated that Nawaz and Gen (retd) Bajwa had met several times in London.

The PTI spokesperson called for Bajwa to be court-martialled for “meeting a convict and conspiring with him against a democratically elected government,” accusing him of dragging the military into politics and risking national security.

The party also demanded an investigation into Nawaz for allegedly aiding the former army chief in this “conspiracy against democracy.”

“Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa is a national criminal in every respect as he put the institution of the army, country, Constitution, and democracy at stake for his interest,” the PTI statement claimed.

The party insisted that the chief justice of Pakistan should take suo motu notice of Zubair’s interview and hold the former army chief and Nawaz accountable.

However, PML-N Senator Irfan Siddiqui refuted the claims on social media, asserting that Nawaz Sharif had no meetings or telephonic contact with Gen (retd) Bajwa since 2017, apart from brief condolences for Begum Kulsoom Nawaz’s death.
