Demand for the resignation of General Asim Munir, the chief of Pakistan Army, and his cohort Generals and political leaders is gathering storm across Pakistan.
Public anger against the Pakistan Army for blatantly manipulating the February 8 elections and yet losing it to the jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan is likely to intensify in the days ahead. Through their votes, people have made it clear that they neither want the Generals nor their proxies to rule the country.
This anger is reflected among the former army officials and soldiers also. The Pakistani Ex-servicemen Society in a twitter said the society of former soldiers and officers were “ deeply troubled by the use of uniformed personnel to manipulate public mandate during the recent elections. We hold the Army Chief and DGISI responsible for this egregious misconduct, which has led to widespread public disillusionment and unprecedented animosity towards the Armed Forces in Pakistan.
“It is imperative that COAS Gen Asim Munir and DGISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum resign immediately if they have any semblance of honour and respect remaining. Their harsh repression of the Pakistani populace, including veterans and their families, will be remembered as a shameful chapter in Pakistan’s history. Furthermore, the Pakistani Air Force leadership must reckon with the involvement of their Chief in supporting his brother’s political ambitions alongside the Army.
“The only path towards restoring honour and integrity is for the COAS and CAS to step down in concert with the DGISI, as demanded unequivocally by Pakistani ex-servicemen.
