US and Pakistani officials held a series of meetings to discuss the evolving situation in Afghanistan, particularly the escalating threat posed by the banned TTP and the impact on bilateral relations.
During his visit to Islamabad, Tom West, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan, met with his Pakistani counterpart, Ambassador Asif Durrani, and senior military and security officials.
While no official statement was released, sources confirmed that the discussions focused on the current Afghan situation, with the Pakistani side emphasizing the resurgence of TTP attacks and their impact on cross-border relations.
Both sides acknowledged the need to address the TTP threat and agreed that such attacks were unacceptable.
The issue of undocumented Afghan migrants was also discussed, with Pakistan outlining its concerns about their presence and the US expressing concerns about potential impacts on individuals waiting for US immigration.
Progress was made on this issue, with Pakistan assuring that individuals on the US-provided list will not be deported and the US updating the list to address Pakistan’s concerns.
Collaboration continues between both countries to facilitate the early repatriation of individuals on the list to the United States.
