On April 27, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met with Pakistani Chief of the Army Staff Syed Asim Munir in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that the Pakistani army is a staunch defender of Pakistan’s national security and stability, and also a staunch defender of China-Pakistan “ironclad” friendship. The friendship based on mutual respect, mutual trust and mutual support, has withstood the test of changes in the international landscape and won wide support from the two peoples. It has strong vitality and will not waver in response to changes in the times. China appreciates the successive Pakistani governments and all political parties for firmly pursuing friendly policies towards China and standing with China on issues concerning China’s core interests and major concerns. China will continue to firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, in achieving unity, stability, development and prosperity, and in playing its due role in the region and the world as a major Muslim country. No matter how the international situation changes, China will always be Pakistan’s reliable strategic cooperative partner.

Wang Yi pointed out that China is ready to restart exchanges with Pakistan in various aspects in the post-pandemic era, so as to maintain the high-level growth of China-Pakistan relations and achieve high-quality development of bilateral cooperation. The two sides should take the 10th anniversary of the proposal of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 10th anniversary of the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of the CPEC and help Pakistan enhance its capacity for independent development.

Munir said that China is Pakistan’s ironclad brother. The Pakistan-China friendship is higher than mountains, deeper than oceans and sweeter than honey. Continuously deepening the all-weather strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China is the cornerstone of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Pakistan firmly supports China’s development and strength. No matter how the international situation changes, Pakistan will always stand with China through thick and thin and build a shared future. The Pakistani army firmly supports the further development of Pakistan-China relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
