Pakistan’s investigation into the suicide attack that killed six people, including five Chinese nationals, has taken a new turn with the arrival of Chinese investigators on Friday. The move underlines Chinese anxieties about securing its personnel and investment in Pakistan.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday in Bisham city, Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, targeted a bus carrying Chinese engineers and their Pakistani driver while traveling between Islamabad and a hydroelectric dam construction site in Dasu.
The incident sparked outrage in China, prompting them to demand a thorough investigation into the blast and enhanced security measures for their citizens working in Pakistan. In response, Pakistan’s government announced a swift investigation to apprehend and hold accountable those responsible for the attack.
According to a statement from the Pakistani Interior Ministry quoted by Reuters, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the Chinese investigative team at the Chinese embassy in Islamabad today. The meeting focused on briefing the Chinese team on the progress of the investigation so far.
This collaborative approach signifies the seriousness with which both Pakistan and China are treating this attack. With Chinese investigators now involved, the investigation is likely to gain momentum and potentially uncover new information.
The attack raises significant concerns about the safety and security of Chinese personnel working on development projects in Pakistan. Addressing these concerns and ensuring the safety of all foreign nationals working in the country will be crucial for maintaining a stable environment for investment and economic cooperation.
