Chinese VT 4 turns into Haider
Drawing inspiration from the Chinese VT4 tank, the Haider boasts unique features and signifies Pakistan’s growing self-reliance in defense production. The Haider’s design is heavily influenced by the VT4, a third-generation MBT developed by China’s NORINCO company. This collaboration highlights Pakistan’s strategic partnership with China and its efforts to leverage international expertise.
The Haider follows a traditional tank design with a crew of three (driver, commander, gunner) positioned in distinct compartments: driver in front, turret in the center, and engine at the rear.
Firepower and Protection: The Haider packs a punch with its 125mm smoothbore main gun, capable of firing various ammunition types including armor-piercing, high-explosive, and anti-tank guided missiles. Secondary armament includes a coaxial machine gun and a remotely operated weapon station with a heavy machine gun. The Haider is equipped with a composite armor system combining various materials for enhanced protection. The frontal hull additionally features explosive reactive armor for further defense against projectiles.
Mobility and Range: The Haider’s suspension system utilizes six road wheels per side with torsion bars, enabling it to navigate diverse terrains effectively. Its powerful 1,200 hp engine allows for a maximum speed of 70 km/h and a cruising range of 500 km, ensuring operational flexibility.
The unveiling of the Haider MBT marks a significant step forward for Pakistan’s defense industry, showcasing its potential for indigenous development and collaboration with international partners.
